June 8, 1930 - June 17, 2018

Irene June (Radtke Floy) McKenney, 88, of Rochester, Minnesota, entered the church triumphant on Sunday, June 17, 2018.

Born on June 8, 1930, she was the daughter of dairy farmers, Ethel (Laabs) and William Radtke. A 1948 graduate of Hutchinson High School, Hutchinson, Minnesota, she earned a two-year teaching certificate from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, in 1950. Subsequently, she earned a BA degree from Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa, and a master's degrees from North Dakota State University and Drake University.

An elementary teacher in Emmetsburg, Iowa, and Olivia, Minnesota, Irene, also, taught high school in Carroll, Iowa. An attentive teacher and listener, she, very much, delighted in young people. Later in life, she worked as a business manager for North West Iowa Radiology in Storm Lake, Iowa. She enjoyed travel, flowers, and music. In addition, she loved her family, friends, and the Lord. She joined Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester.

Irene is survived by her children, Judy Floy, of Washington, D.C., Kent (Anne) Floy, of Osage, Iowa, Timothy (Linda) Floy, of Grapevine, Texas, Jane (Mark) Nicholson, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and Paul Floy, of Owatonna; three grandchildren, Nathan, Martha, and Sarah Floy; her siblings, Alvera (Royal) Boniek and Harvey (Gloria) Radtke; and her sisters-in-law, Gloria and Madeline Radtke, Susan Floy, and Sandra Teggatz; as well as by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, the Rev. Robert Floy (married 1954) and Dr. Martin McKenney (married 1990); her siblings, Willard Radtke, Lorraine (Donald) Getz, and Ralph Radtke; her daughter-in-law, Elaine Floy; and her brothers-in-law, Buford Floy and Eugene Teggatz.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 30, 2018, at the Charter House Chapel, 211 Second Street NW, Rochester, Minnesota 55901, with the Revs. Rachael Hanson and Vern Christopherson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a Lutheran organization of the donor’s choosing.
