Clinton L. Hoferman
November 1, 1931 - May 13, 2018

Clinton L. Hoferman, age 86, of Storm Lake, Iowa, formerly of Alta, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2018, at Fonda Specialty Care of Fonda, Iowa.

Clinton was born November 1, 1931, to Leo and Mamie (Schoen) Hoferman on the family farm east of Storm Lake, Iowa. In 1951, he graduated from Alta Consolidated School, Alta. Then, on April 8, 1952, he joined the United States Army, serving his country in Japan during the Korean Conflict with the 10th Mt. Division and the 1st Cavalry Division. He spent his seventeen months overseas playing his baritone horn in the Army Band. He was, honorably, discharged on March 13, 1954.

Clinton began playing the baritone horn at age seven. By the fifth grade, he had joined the high-school band and at the age of fifteen the Storm Lake Municipal Band. Indeed, Karl King, the band director, used to drive out to the family farm to pick him up so that Clinton could play in his band. Eventually, Clinton went on to play in the Storm Lake Municipal Band for seventy years, retiring just last year.

On September 19, 1954, Clinton married Ruth Jeniece Patten at the Presbyterian Church in Alta. Subsequently, they were blessed with four daughters: Diane, Joan, Colleen, and Lisa; eleven grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren.

A member of the United Methodist Church in Alta, Iowa, Clinton, always, put God first in his life. A Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6172, Alta, Iowa, an All State Commander for twelve years, and All-American Commander for two years, he, also, served as the Eighth District Commander and then as the Iowa State Commander from 1995 to 1996. In addition, he served as the chaplain for his post, 6172, 8th District, Department of Iowa and the Big Ten Conference, for fourteen years. Moreover, he worked as the Veterans Service Officer for Buena Vista County, Iowa, for many years.

A life-long farmer, Clinton loved the land and the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing as much as possible. He enjoyed relaxing with his buddies at the “office” (Hy-Vee coffee shop), and above all, he loved spending time with family, the love of his life!

Clinton is survived by Ruth, his wife of sixty-three years; his daughters: Diane (Bruce) Radke, of Clinton, Iowa, Joan (Roger) Pence, of Gilbert, Arizona, Colleen (Barry) Sharp, of Rogers, Minnesota, and Lisa (Troy) Miranowski, of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; eleven grandchildren: Meghann Radke (Robert) MacKinnon, of Otsego, Minnesota, Anthony (Jenny), Connor (Meagan), and Tayhler Miranowski, all of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; Jason (Hollie) Miska, of Fallbrook, California, Andrea Miska (Brandon) Pufall, of San Tan Valley, Arizona, Christopher (Courtney) Radke, of Clinton, Iowa, Joshua (Stephanie) Radke, of Iowa City, Iowa, Clinton (Addie) Sharp, of New Bern, North Carolina, Matthew Sharp, of Otsego, Minnesota, and Rachael Sharp, of Fargo, Minnesota; twenty great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Anthony, Miranda, and Natalie MacKinnon; Bayleigh, Charlie, and Levi Miranowski; Leroy, Mackenzie, Madison, and Noah Miska; Asher and Ryker Sharp; Amelia, Finley, Hudson, Jonas, Oliver, Owen, and Penelope Radke; his brother, Boyd (Marilu) Hoferman; his sister, Donna (Robert) Strand; his sister-in-law, Margie Hoferman; his brothers-in-law, Neil (Pat) and Doug Patten; his sister-in-law, Darlene Patten; as well as by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
