Alvira Jean Braesch
October 22, 1926 — March 8, 2018

Alvira Jean Wenck Braesch was born in Glidden to Daniel J. and Katherine Wenck on October 22, 1926. She attended school in Sioux Rapids, graduating with the class of 1943. Baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake, she married Arvid O. Braesch of Albert City on August 15, 1943. After their wedding, they joined St. John’s Lutheran Church in Albert City where she remained active for the rest of her life.

Alvira and Arvid spent forty years farming in rural Albert City where they were blessed with six children – Thomas, Terry, Carol, Nancy, Steven, and Robert. A housewife, she raised an active family, baked, helped on the farm, and stayed active in St. John’s Church choir and Ladies Aid. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, going on family fishing trips, getting together with family and friends, and traveling.

In 1986, Alvira and Arvid retired and moved into Albert City where she helped neighbors and friends with errands, provided transportation to and from doctor appointments as well as other engagements, kept the books, and socialized with a large group of friends.

Alvira was preceded in death by husband, Arvid Braesch; her son, Robert Braesch; her parents, Daniel and Katherine Wenck, her sisters, Rena Waters, Helen Wagscel, and Marjorie Gunnerson; her brothers, Archie Westbrook and Daniel, Jr., and Kenneth Wenck.

Alvira is survived by her children and their spouses: Tom and Karen Braesch, of Spirit Lake, Terry and Kathy Braesch, of St. Augustine, Florida, Carol and Tom Parks, also of Spirit Lake, Nancy and Nick Ackerman, of Storm Lake, Steve and Letha Braesch, of Arlington, Virginia, and Becky Braesch, of Laurens; her sister, Darlene Caskey, of Sioux Rapids; fourteen grandchildren; and thirty-eight great-grandchildren; as well as by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
