Gerald John Liesveld
October 15, 1923 - January 29, 2018

Gerald John Liesveld was born in rural Lancaster County, Nebraska, near Lincoln, to John Liesveld and Anna (Oldemeyer) Liesveld on October 15, 1923. Jerry spent his childhood on the family farm, graduating from Hickman High School. Next, he farmed with his father for a time before entering the University of Nebraska where he studied agricultural economics. After graduating, he moved with his bride, Lorene Vandewege, first to Omaha before settling long-term in Storm Lake, Iowa, in 1954. Jerry spent most of his career in land management and enjoyed his travels throughout western Iowa, southeastern South Dakota, and southwestern Minnesota. He loved the business and people in agriculture, and he worked in farm management up to the age of 90. He was a long-time member of Kiwanis and of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church where he served terms on the session.

As the father of daughters, Jerry supported their education and professional careers. After Lorene’s death, Jerry entered the Methodist Manor Community where he enjoyed his stay at Otsego Place. Having developed severe glaucoma and partial blindness at an early age, he became an example of how to surmount challenges and make the most of any situation. Faith, constancy, and service became the hallmarks of his life and the legacy which he leaves.

Jerry is survived by his three daughters, Jane Liesveld (Deepak Sahasrabudhe) of Rochester, New York, Judy Liesveld, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Jill Liesveld, of Coralville, Iowa; four adoring grandchildren: Kieran Sahasrabudhe, Peter Sahasrabudhe, Jared Dooley, and Joy Liesvel; and his sister-in–law, Eleanor (Stanley) Scheevel; as well as by nieces, nephews, friends, and supportive neighbors from the Lakeshore Dr./Geneseo St. neighborhood. He is predeceased by his four siblings, Ruth, Nelson, Jean, and Edith; his infant daughter, Lois; and by Lorene (Vandewege) Liesveld, his wife of over 60 years.

The Liesveld family wishes to thank the caregivers at the Methodist Manor as well as the UnityPoint Hospice team. There will be no calling hours. Interment will take place in the Holland Cemetery, Holland, Nebraska. Arrangements with the Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Homes. Memorials in Gerald’s name may be made to UnityPoint Hospice, 112 W. 5th Street, PO Box 427, Storm Lake, Iowa.
