January 22, 1951 - December 28, 2017Michael Quinn, age 66, of Albert City, Iowa, died on December 28, 2017, at the Fonda Specialty Care in Fonda.
Michael D. Quinn, a son of Loren Angelo and Given Rita (Monte) Quinn, was born at Rock Rapids, Iowa, on January 22, 1951. Throughout his younger life, Mike traveled with the carnival through various towns.
Mike, the father of a daughter and a son, Stacy and Joshua, spent most of his life in Marathon and Albert City where he was affectionately known as “Grizz” or “Mountain Man.” For many years, Grizz worked at the meat packing plant in Storm Lake. For the past ten years, however, because of his declining health, he was not able to work.
The people of Albert City held a special place in his heart and functioned as his family, supporting and caring for him in many ways. Known as the “man about town,” he would go around greeting and socializing with his friends, often spending time with them in the local businesses and at the gas station. Otherwise, his ultimate passion and enjoyment in life came from attending auctions and collecting antiques. A big man with a big heart, Grizz taught the people he shared his life with many valuable lessons.
Grizz’s life is remembered by his children: Stacy Barnes and Joshua Quinn, both of Yankton, South Dakota; his two grandchildren, Dakota and Daisy Barnes, also of Yankton, South Dakota; his adopted family that played an active and caring role in his life: Luke and Christy Ehlers, of Albert City, Iowa, and their children: Brady and Trevor, along with his many other Albert City friends. Grizz was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial visitation will be held Thursday, March 1, 2018, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City with a memorial service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
