Ethel Ruth Harvey
March 30, 1927 - December 6, 2017

Ethel Ruth (Pepper) Harvey, age 90, of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ethel was born in Arthur, Iowa, to George and Nettie (Leber) Pepper on March 30, 1927. After graduating from Galva High School, she attended the National Business Training School (NBTS) in Sioux City, Iowa. Then, after graduating from NBTS, she worked at the First National Bank in Sioux City.

Ethel met her soul-mate, Dwain Harvey, while attending school at Galva. They married on July 20, 1951. Subsequently, they were blessed with two children: a daughter, Jennie, and a son, Randy.

A homemaker, a member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church and of the funeral committee in former years, and an avid reader, she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, needle work, playing games, and working crossword puzzles. Ethel had many titles… a loving daughter, sister, cousin, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt, and friend. Loving, kind, honest, and generous, she cherished and enjoyed her family immensely. Always with a positive outlook, she would put the needs of others ahead of her own. A wonderful role model, Ethel had a infectious sense of humor. Without a doubt, she will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennie Klopfenstein, of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; her son, Randy (Ardine) Harvey, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her sister, Margaret Way, of Boone, Iowa; her brothers, Russell (Shirley) Pepper, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Vernon (Betty) Pepper, of Spencer, Iowa; one grandson, Jeff (Lisa) Klopfenstein, of Des Moines, Iowa; four granddaughters: Brandy (Scott) Jones, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Amy (Keith) Wilken, of Earlham, Iowa; Tasha (Paul) Bloyer, of Holmen, Wisconsin, and Kata (Dillon) Shindelar, of Adel, Iowa; and eight great grandchildren: Abry, Addison, Carson, Ella, Evan, Lahna, Joelle, and Sydney; as well as by nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dwain Harvey; her parents, George and Nettie (Leber) Pepper; her sister, Lucille (Joyce) Reinert; her brothers, George “Bud” and Melvin Pepper; and her son-in-law, Joe Klopfenstein.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 11, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will be during the hour before the service at the church. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
