Randy Ray Jacobson
June 13, 1952 - October 4, 2017

Randy R. Jacobson, age 65, of Lakeside, Iowa, died on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Randy Ray was born to Elmer and Lois (Fifield) Jacobson on June 13, 1952. Baptized soon thereafter at the First Presbyterian Church in Schaller, he attended Schaller Community School, graduating in 1970. Then, he continued his education at Iowa Central Community College at Fort Dodge where he earned an Automotive Science degree. In 1972, he was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Schaller.

On July 7, 1972, Randy married Cynthia Ann Schmidt at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Schaller. After their wedding, they moved to Storm Lake where Randy joined Grace Lutheran Church. Over the years, he worked at various dealerships in Storm Lake. In 1983, however, he opened his own business, Randy’s Repair, which he owned and operated until 2009 when his declining health forced him to retire. Nonetheless, this past summer, he enjoyed mowing the grass at the Alta Golf and Country Club.

Randy liked hunting, fishing, bowling, and golfing. Once, he, even, managed to land a hole in one on the eighth green at the Alta Golf and Country Club. In addition, he loved to tell stories about his numerous bear hunting trips to Canada and his fishing expeditions to both Minnesota and South Dakota. He, also, took immense pride in restoring his vintage Cudas [Plymouth Barracudas]. This summer, his 1971 Cuda won first place honors at the Schaller popcorn days. Most of all, however, he loved to spend time with his grandkids. Indeed, he would pester them at any and every chance he could get. Moreover, he loved attending his children and grandchildren's activities. A blood donor, he was, always, encouraging others to do donate as well.

Those who will lovingly remember Randy include his wife of forty-five years, Cindy Jacobson, of Lakeside; his children: Mindy (Jason) Stoltzfus, of Muscatine, and Brandon (Rachel) Jacobson, of Schleswig; his grandchildren: Xander, Zach, Zara, Zoe, and Zina Stoltzfus as well as Ty and Ava Jacobson; his sister in-law, Cathy (Jim) McDonough; his brothers-in-law, Carey (Rhonda) and Casey Schmidt; his stepfather, Glenn Mesenbrink; and a brother, all of Schaller; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lois Jacobson; and his parents-in-law, Alfred “Bud” and Vernette Schmidt Mesenbrink.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 7, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow at a later date. Visitation will take place Friday, October 6, 2017, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is overseeing the arrangements.
