December 29, 1921 - September 8, 2017Rolly F. Roberts, age 95, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, September 8, 2017, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.
A son of Roy and Helen (Leber) Roberts, Rolly was born on December 29, 1921, in Aurelia, Iowa. After completing his education, he joined the United States Navy on October 9, 1942. Following the Japanese attack, he was sent to Pearl Harbor. Next, he served on the USS Arkansas as a Ship’s Cook, Second Class, before being, honorably, discharged on December 12, 1945. On February 5, 1955, he married Ada Marie Pryor at the United Methodist Church. Subsequently, they were blessed with two children: Raymond G. born on October 21, 1946, and Danny L., on March 5, 1947. In 1957, Rolly was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake where he was currently a member. In addition, he became a faithful member of the Alta VFW, Post #6172, for many years.
In his spare time, Rolly enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends . Indeed, each morning, he enjoyed sitting at the round table at HyVee, having breakfast with the guys. He will be, deeply, missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of sixty-two years, Ada Marie Roberts, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children, Raymond G. Crees, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Danny L. (Sandra) Alderson, of Cortez, Florida; ten grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; his brothers: Guy Roberts, of Missouri, Herbert (Carmen) Roberts, of California, and Luther Roberts, of Missouri; his sisters, Tena Jones, of Florida, and Phyllis (Dennis) Guthrie, of Missouri; and his sisters-in-law, Harriet Roberts, of Alaska, and Barbara (Hale) Pember, of Iowa; as well as extended family members and friends. Rolly was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Helen Roberts; his brothers, Cliff, Clovis, Raymond, and Leonard; and his sisters, Doris Rea and Darlene Williamson.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Storm Lake Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Alta VFW, Post #6172. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
