Marylinn Petersen
June 11, 1925 - September 23, 2017

Marylinn Shannon Baedke Petersen, age 92, of Wahpeton, Iowa, died on September 23, 2017, in Wahpeton.

Marylinn was born on June 11, 1925, on a farm in Boyer Valley Township near Early, Iowa, to Wylie Myer and Vena Bethel Fort Shannon. Baptized on April 24, 1932, she attended Jackson No. 3 country school for eight years. The family, later, moved to Sac City where she graduated from high school in 1942. In the fall of 1942, she attended Tri State College in Sioux City, Iowa. She, later, moved back to Sac City where she worked in the superintendent’s office over the next few years.

On May 29, 1946, she married Leroy William Baedke at the Nemaha Methodist Church. In 1955, a daughter, Beth Lynn, was born to their union. Later, Marylinn and Leroy became foster parents and raised a son, Roger Sebring. Regrettably, Leroy passed away on November 11, 1963. Mary, Beth, and Roger, then, moved to Newell, Iowa, where she worked at the Newell school for five years. On December 28, 1965, she married Gerald Howard Petersen. To this union, he brought three daughters: Bobby Jo, Jerri Le, and Lynn Marie. They raised their four girls through high school. Jerry worked as a building contractor and Mary at the New Mirror for fifteen years. After they retired, they made their home in Wahpeton, Iowa. Jerry died May 13, 1989, but Mary continued to live in their home until her death.

An avid reader, Mary, often, enjoyed sitting out on their deck while cherishing her memories of her children and grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Beth, and her husband, Kent Wolcott, of Wahpeton, Iowa; her granddaughter, Stephanie, and her children, Colton, Kylie, and Alyssa, of Sioux City, Iowa, her grandson, Matthew, and his wife, Jamie, and their children: Hayley, Emily, and Jameson, of Bettendorf, Iowa; her step-granddaughter, Kayla, and her daughter, Isabella; her step-grandson, Kyle, and his fiancée, Miranda, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her step granddaughter, Jolee Kjos (Danny), of Athol, Idaho, and their children; her step-grandson, Justin (Krista), and their children of Montara, California; her step-grandson, Troy (Andrea) Hogrefe, and their children; her step-granddaughter, Melissa (Nathan) Snyder, and their children; her step-grandson, Derek (Barb) Hogrefe, and their children; and her step granddaughter, Tiffany (Dave) Stern, and their children, all of Storm Lake, Iowa; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Marylinn was preceded in death by her parents, Verna and Wylie Shannon; her sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Don Olsen; her first husband, Leroy Baedke, and his parents, William and Susan Baedke; her sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Don Poe; her second husband, Gerald “Jerry” Petersen, and his parents, Elmer and Lillian; her brothers-in-law, Bill (Carol) and Jim (Betty); and her nephew, Kevin Petersen; her step-daughters: Bobby Jo, Jerri Le, and Lynn (Norm) Hogrefe, and her great granddaughter, Wendy Hogrefe.
