Marylinn Petersen
June 11, 1925 - September 23, 2017Marylinn Shannon Baedke Petersen, age 92, of Wahpeton, Iowa, died on September 23, 2017, in Wahpeton.
Marylinn was born on June 11, 1925, on a farm in Boyer Valley Township near Early, Iowa, to Wylie Myer and Vena Bethel Fort Shannon. Baptized on April 24, 1932, she attended Jackson No. 3 country school for eight years. The family, later, moved to Sac City where she graduated from high school in 1942. In the fall of 1942, she attended Tri State College in Sioux City, Iowa. She, later, moved back to Sac City where she worked in the superintendent’s office over the next few years.
On May 29, 1946, she married Leroy William Baedke at the Nemaha Methodist Church. In 1955, a daughter, Beth Lynn, was born to their union. Later, Marylinn and Leroy became foster parents and raised a son, Roger Sebring. Regrettably, Leroy passed away on November 11, 1963. Mary, Beth, and Roger, then, moved to Newell, Iowa, where she worked at the Newell school for five years. On December 28, 1965, she married Gerald Howard Petersen. To this union, he brought three daughters: Bobby Jo, Jerri Le, and Lynn Marie. They raised their four girls through high school. Jerry worked as a building contractor and Mary at the New Mirror for fifteen years. After they retired, they made their home in Wahpeton, Iowa. Jerry died May 13, 1989, but Mary continued to live in their home until her death.
