Vera Jane Morse
April 28, 1924 - July 30, 2017

Vera Morse, age 93, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on July 30, 2017, at Welcov Assisted Living in Alta, Iowa.

Vera Jane Momsen, a daughter of Otto and Anna (Jacobsen) Momsen, was born on April 28, 1924, in Newell, Iowa. Baptized in Algona, Iowa, at the Methodist Church, she attended grade school in Sac City and high school in Newell. On September 3, 1945, she married Wayne Rabe at the Methodist Church in Sac City. Subsequently, they were blessed with three children: Judy, Mary Lou, and Virginia. On June 2, 1951, she married Franklin C. Morse in South Sioux City, Nebraska. They, too, were blessed with three children: Linda, Calvin, and Douglas.

A hard worker, she was employed at several area businesses including the Ben Franklin dime store in Sac City, Jackson’s Fruit Farm in Newell, Vila’s turkey plant, Julius Cleaners, the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, Buena Vista College, the Spectra, and Ameri Host, all in Storm Lake. Moreover, for over forty years, she upholstered furniture on the side.

In her spare time, Vera enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and embroidering. She, also, loved to dance at the Cobblestone in Storm Lake as well as at the Lake View Ballroom. In addition, she spent a lot of time at the Storm Lake roller skating rink with her father and friends. In her last years, she learned to love a good game of Bingo. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Judy (Dick) Hartsell, of Early, Iowa, Mary Lou (Farrell Lee) Sirovy, of Ruthven, Iowa, Virginia (Keith) Dobler, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Linda Medsker, of Alta, Iowa, Calvin (Jennifer) Morse, of Aurelia, Iowa, and Doug Morse, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her grandchildren: Brenda (Brian) Bjorum; Jacob (Crystal) Hartsell; Meg (Joe) Kissner; Nancy (Daniel) Kohler, Cody (Jenny) and Kari Medsker; Jessie (Chris) Meyer, Wendy (Tom) Mooney; Desiree, Emily, Michael (Svannah), and Victoria Morse; Becky (Chris) Riedesel; Brett (Kerri) and Farrell Wayne Sirovy; Jenika (Justin) Stamer, Ashley (Scott) Wallin, and Amanda (John) Weber; her great grandchildren: Aaliyah, Aaron, Aisley, Bently, Brady, Brendon, Brock, Brooke, Brooke, Conner, Courtney, Donald, Faith, Grace, Gilbert, Hunter, Jaelynn, John James, Justin, Kaitlin, Kianna, Krista, Landon, Mackayla, Mackenzie, MaKenna, Maura, Nolan, Olivia, Olivia, Sean, Trenton, Trevor, Troy, and Wyatt; as well as extended family members and friends.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Franklin Morse; her great-grandchild, Brianna Lynn Bjorum; her sisters: Arlene (Bernard) Oakland and Mildred (Maurice) Hill; and her brother, Ronald (Betty) Momsen.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 3, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Ferguson Cemetery in Lake View. Visitation will take place Wednesday, August 2, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is overseeing the arrangements.
