Marilyn Elizabeth Bryant
November 16, 1925 - May 27, 2017Marilyn E. Bryant, age 91, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Marilyn Elizabeth, a daughter of George Edward and Ruth Elizabeth (Keith) Cullivan, was born on November 16, 1925, in Timewell, Illinois. Baptized as an infant and later confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling, Illinois, she attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Mt. Sterling, graduating in 1945. Next, she continued her education at St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Quincy, Illinois, completing her diploma in nursing in 1948.
On November 24, 1951, Marilyn married Dodd Bryant in Bushnell, Illinois. Subsequently, they were blessed with seven children: Dorna, Steve, Ruth, Liz, Charlie, Sarah, and Margie. Not only a dedicated homemaker, wife, and mother, she, also, worked as a Registered Nurse at the Buena Vista Hospital, retiring in 1980. A member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake and a past president of the St. Mary’s Guild, she sang in the choir as well.
Throughout her life, Marilyn enjoyed seeing her children grow, living on the farm in Browning, Illinois, watching the town teams practice baseball on the farm while she snapped beans with the other moms, supervising the kids while they were riding their pony or wading in the creek on the farm, sledding down the snowy hill in the winter, vacationing in Ireland with her husband, Dodd, and her daughter, Ruth, and son-in-law, Dennis, and exploring Rome with Dodd and her daughter, Liz. In addition, she had many memorable experiences on a family excursion on a naval vessel with Charlie, Steve, and his wife, ElJean. A dedicated fan of her children’s sports, special events, and unique talents, she attended and admired Margie’s swimming meets and basketball games, Dorna’s piano recitals, Sarah’s craftsmanship and artistry, and Charlie’s humor and success in the band. Moreover, she loved her role as “Grammy” to Sammie, Chloe, and Max LaLone. Most of all, however, she will be remembered as a fun-loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She will, indeed, be missed deeply by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Dorna Hoft, of Dixon, Illinois; Steve (ElJean), of Buford, Georgia; Ruth Bryant, of Spokane, Washington; and Liz Stough, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her grandchildren: Erik (Diana), Liza (Dan), and Sara; Nathan (Lisa), Seth, and Carie (Dennis); Alycia (Jared), Melinda (Andrew), and Veronica (Hunter); Mike and Charlie; and Andrea and Alex; her great grandchildren: Hannah and Samuel Krocheski; Olivia and Hunter Hoft; Trevor and Mackenzie Hoft; Kaylee, Leland, Kendyl and Lucas; Emma, Grace, and Erik Quinn Stough; Aryanna Swanson; and her adopted family, Mishelle and Gary LaLone, and “Grammy” to their children: Max, Sammie, and Chloe, all of Storm Lake, Iowa; as well as extended family members and friends.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dodd; her daughters, Margie Goldin and Sarah Petersen; her son, Charlie Bryant; her grandson, Michael Goldin; and her brothers: Ed, George, and Gene Cullivan.
