Mary Catherine Norris
March 23, 1931 - February 17, 2017

Mary Catherine Norris (Schmitt) passed away unexpectedly on February 17th, 2017.

Mary was born in Maple Valley Township, Buena Vista County, Iowa, on March 23rd, 1931, to Frank and Anna Catherine Schmitt. After graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1948, she attended Nursing School in Sioux City, Iowa, until she married Linus J. Dick on January 30, 1951. He passed away on July 24th, 1968. Mary continued to live in Storm Lake, Iowa, with her family until they all moved to Tumwater, Washington, in 1976.

A loving mother, Mary made her family the center of her life. An enormously talented and prolific quilter, she bestowed many of her creations on both family and friends. An avid reader, she, always, kept up on current events. Moreover, she participated in the life of her community.

Mary is survived by her sisters, Veronica Lutter and Dorthy (Frank) Waldo; her brothers, Don (Betty) and Jim Schmitt; and her nine children: Celeste K. Atkins; Frank A., Mary Patricia (OSB), Paul E. (Sharon), and Theodore J. Dick; Colette E. (Jim) Krueger; Charles H. (Laura) Maternus; Linus St. James; and Linda R. (Michael) Sullivan; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on March 23rd, 2017, in Lacey, Washington, and a celebration service of her life will take place with family and friends this summer in Storm Lake, Iowa.
