Elaine Ann Vander Broek
September 30, 1938 - October 4, 2016Elaine Ann (Franzmeier) Vander Broek, daughter of Ewald and Anna (Voss) Franzmeier, was born on September 30, 1938. She passed away at the age of 78 on October 4, 2016, at the Newton Health Care Center in Newton. Elaine grew up on the family farm in rural Storm Lake, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake, she graduated from Truesdale High School in 1957. On June 16, 1957, she married Franklin G. Vander Broek at Zion Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with two children, Linda and Frank.
Frank and Elaine made their home both in Orange City and Sioux Rapids, Iowa, before moving to Monroe in 1970. An accomplished seamstress, she sowed her wedding dress on a treadle sewing machine. She, also, had a talent for oil painting and scrapbooking. Nonetheless, she had a real passion for flowers and spent many hours planning, planting, and weeding flower gardens.
For several years, Elaine worked as a bank teller at the Pella National Bank and Mid-Iowa Savings and Loan before retiring from the Farm Bureau in 2003. After they retired, Frank and Elaine had time to travel and attend polka festivals. They loved dancing together and traveling to where their favorite bands were performing.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Linda (David) Beyer and Frank (Kathy) Vander Broek, both of Monroe; four grandchildren, Daniel (Kacey) Beyer, Bryan (Alexis) Beyer, Jessica (Jim) Patterson, and Cody Vander Broek; four great grandchildren, Isabella, Tabitha, and Olivia Beyer and Hannah Patterson; her brother, Myron(Dorothy) Franzmeier, of Storm Lake; her sisters-in-law, Beverly Rose, of Ogden, Phyllis Vander Broek, of Boone, and Grayce Vander Broek, of Folsom, California; along with many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, Ewald and Anna, and her husband, Franklin, in 2010.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 7, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the Monroe Presbyterian Church with burial following at Silent City Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 6, 2016, from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe.
