Jody A. Nagengast, age 48, of Marathon, Iowa, died on November 25, 2016, at her home.

A daughter of Ruth Ann (Schmitz) Frideres and Michael Condon, Jody Ann Schmitz was born on September 1, 1968, in Carroll, Iowa. When she was one week old, she went to live with Diann and Duane Schmitz.

Baptized at St. John the Baptist Church in Arcadia, Iowa, and confirmed in Cedar Falls, Iowa, in 1993, Jody attended school in Fonda where she participated in sports as a cheerleader. After graduating from high school in 1987, she continued her education at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls where she was in the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Jody, later, studied at Iowa Central Community College where she earned a nursing degree. Then, she worked as a nurse at the Sunset Knoll Care Center in Aurelia, a career position she loved. She, also, belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary. On August 28, 1998, Jody married Paul Nagengast at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. Together, they raised three children: Kelsey, Hannah, and Tanner.

Passionate about horseback riding, Jody made many friends over the years attending rodeos. In addition, she enjoyed cooking. Most of all, however, she loved her children with her whole heart. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Paul Nagengast, of Pocahontas, Iowa; her children: Kelsey (Kris) Fuhrman, of Waterloo, Iowa, Hannah Nagengast, of Marathon, Iowa, and Tanner Nagengast, of Marathon, Iowa; her father, Michael (Mary Ellen) Condon, of Denver, Colorado; her grandmothers, Virginia V. Freeman, of Fonda, Iowa, and Ruth Ann Frideres, of Algona, Iowa; her aunts and uncles: Jim (Gloria) Freeman, of Valley Center, California, Susan (Gerry) Boaz, of Fairmont, Minnesota, Larry Schmitz, of Fonda, Iowa, Jerry Schmitz, of Vincent, Iowa, Vernon (Sherry) Schmit, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Ursula (John) Newkirk, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Betty (Bob) Odello, of Calabasis, California; Ellen (Tony) Saver, of Calmer, Iowa, Margaret (Bill) Candis, of Grand Island, Nebraska, and Denise Condon, of Columbus, Nebraska; as well as numerous cousins; extended family members; and friends.

Jody was preceded in death by Diann (Duane) Schmitz; her grandparents: Wayne Freeman, Leonard (Leona) Schmitz, Eugene (Margaret) Condon; and her uncle, Terry Condon.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 2, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel’s Catholic Church in Fonda. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Sac City, Iowa. Visitation will take place Thursday, December 1, 2016, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel’s Catholic Church in Fonda. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is overseeing the arrangements.
