Janet L. Henely
March 18, 1941 - September 10, 2016Janet L. Henely, age 75, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at the Hawkeye Care Center in Sioux Rapids.
Janet Louise Enderson, a daughter of Donald and Bernice (Risvold) Enderson, was born in Spencer, Iowa, on March 18, 1941. She was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven, Iowa. Raised on a farm in the Ruthven vicinity with her two younger brothers, she took an active part in helping with the animals and the farming operation. She received her education at Ruthven, graduating with the Class of 1958. She enjoyed sports and was fortunate to be a part of the basketball team that qualified for the Girls State Tournament her senior year.
On August 1, 1959, Janet married Donald Henely in Spencer, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Julie Kay, Kevin Leo, and Michelle Marie. Following their wedding, Janet and Don resided in Sioux Rapids. An accomplished seamstress, Janet enjoyed sewing clothes for her children when they were young. They established Henely’s Blacksmith Shop. Janet, always, enjoyed going back to the family farm to help with walking beans, dressing chickens, and freezing sweet corn. The family cherishes the many memories and stories shared about those times.
Don’s sudden death in 1975, left a huge hole in all their lives. His family and his many friends in and around Sioux Rapids still remember and talk about him fondly to this day. Strength and perseverance sustained Janet through this and many of life’s other challenges and struggles.
Remembered for her diligence and dedication, she was employed at the old Sioux Rapids school as a cook. In addition, she tended bar at the Little Sioux Golf and Country Club, served as a housekeeper at the Sioux Care Center, and enjoyed mingling with the many residents, their families, and the nursing home staff over the years.
A sports enthusiast and for many years and a member of the ladies bowling league, Janet, always, enjoyed watching sports on TV. Most of all, however, she cherished her grandchildren and enjoyed attending their sporting events, theatrical plays, and musicals when she could, and if she couldn’t, she was anxious to hear about them later. She never wanted to miss out on what happened or what was going on, and through the years, she, always, had to go to the Clay County Fair. Janet will be truly missed by her family and many friends.
Janet’s life will always be honored and cherished by her family which includes her daughters, Julie Johnson, and her fiancé, Jerry Bond, of Everly, Iowa, and Michelle (Kirt) Patten, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; her grandchildren, Megan Johnson, of Scottsdale, Arizona, Kaye (Adam) Rickman, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Brandon and Austin Patten, both of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; two great grandchildren: Nash David Rickman and Riley Deane Rickman; her brother, Alan (Helen) Enderson, of Spencer, Iowa; her in-laws: Carol (Lee) Boltjes; Gail Egeland; Bernard (Sharon), Cheri, David (Kathy), Joe, Judy, Paul, and Perry (Jane) Henely; Linda (Rick) Larson; Virginia (Harry) Origer; Debbie Theesfeld; Devona Trimble; and Carol (Leo) Wigen; along with many other relatives and friends.
