Kenneth J. Kramer
May 27, 1931 - July 25, 2016

Kenneth Joseph Kramer, age 85, of Alta, Iowa, died on Monday, July 25, 2016, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Kenneth, a son of Bernard, Sr., and Marie (Ocken) Kramer, was born on May 27, 1931, in Carroll, Iowa. Baptized and later confirmed at St. Francis Church in Maple River, Iowa, he attended grade school at Maple River and then high school in Pocahontas where he graduated in 1949. Next, he furthered his education at the Elgin Watch Makers School in Elgin, Illinois, where he graduated in 1957.

In September of 1952, Kenneth was drafted into the United States Army to serve his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954. On February 3, 1990, he married Marlene Powell in Grinnell, Iowa, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

A member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, he joined the Knights of Columbus in 1977 and advanced to the Fourth Degree in 1980. He, also, belonged to the Alta VFW Post #6172, the Eagles Club in Grinnell, the American Legion, the Alta Golf and Country Club, and the Elks Club of which he was a 50-year member. In addition, he enjoyed many other activities and hobbies such as bowling, golfing, playing cards, doing yard work, and gardening. He, especially, enjoyed the Brushy Creek Honor Flight. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Marlene Kramer, of Alta, Iowa; his son, Patrick (Amy) Kramer, of Beecher, Illinois; his step daughters, Tracy Johnson, Toni (Kevin) Hammer, and Lee (Bradley) Martin, all of Alta, Iowa; his grandchildren: Julia Kramer and Tyler Kramer, both of Beecher, Illinois, Michelle and Jeremiah Ruby, James Martin, and Jamie (Fanny) Hammer, all of Alta, Iowa, and Jahde (Kevin) Osborn, of Harlan, Iowa; his great-grandchildren: Pako and Diego Garcia and Jaycob and Andrea Hammer, of Alta, Iowa; and Miss Charlie and Carter Osborn, of Harlan, Iowa; his brothers, Bob (Mariam) Kramer, of Storm Lake, Iowa; John (Sandy) and Jerry Kramer, of Pocahontas, Iowa, and Mike (Pauline) Kramer, of Cherokee, Iowa; his sisters, Ruth Reis, of Pocahontas, Iowa, and Linda (Dick) Wirges, of Omaha, Nebraska; his sisters-in-law, Barb (Loren) Kramer, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Fran (Ben) Kramer, of Pocahontas, Iowa; and his beloved dog, Kaci; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Marie (Ocken) Kramer; his brothers, Leon, Vernice, Loren, Eugene, and Ben Kramer; his sisters-in-law, Gladys (Leon) and JoAnn (Ben) Kramer; and his brother-in-law, Leonard (Ruth) Reis.

A Funeral Mass will be offered Saturday, July 30, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake with full military rites provided by the Alta VFW Post #6172. Visitation will take place Friday, July 29, 2016, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Fourth Degree Honor Guard at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home. A vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. followed by a KC Rosary all at the Funeral Home. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
