Orville Hallengren, a son of Alfred and Iva (Carlson) Hallengren, was born on September 21, 1935, in Galva, Iowa. After attending grade school in Galva, he graduated from Alta High School in 1953. On January 6, 1955, he joined the United States Army. He served in the Ordinance and spent three years in Fontenet, France, before his honorable discharge on October 2, 1959. On December 5, 1958, he married Janet Powell, the love of his life, in Lawton, Oklahoma. Subsequently, they were blessed with two children: Marcina and Michael.

Orville held various jobs throughout his life, working the majority of his years for Columbian Feed and later as the manager for the Storm Lake AMVETS. In addition, he served as a dedicated fireman for the Storm Lake Fire Department and as a member of the Storm Lake AMVETS for many years. He attended the First Baptist Church in Storm Lake where he served as an usher.

Orville loved sports and enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Twins, Kansas City Chiefs, and NASCAR races. He made many trips to Branson, Missouri, and to Topeka, Kansas. Some of his other favorite activities included gardening and taking care of his cat, Icky. Most of all, however, as a devoted family man, he cherished spending time with family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Janet Hallengren, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children: Marcina Hallengren, of Schaller, Iowa, and Michael (Deanna) Hallengren, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; his sister, Gladys (Noble) Warner, of Lamar, Missouri; his sisters-in-law: Vera Hallengren, of Alta, Iowa, and Phyllis Toiberg, of Rembrandt, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews; neighborhood grandchildren: Mayra, Arely, Luigi, Jesus, Ali, Frankie, Edgar, Liz, Collin, Hector, Valentina, and Bianca; and many “grandpets;” as well as extended family members and friends.

Orville was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Lloyd, Norris, Clifford, and Kenneth; his sister, Melva; and infant siblings: Ronnie and Helen.
