STORM LAKE PILOT-TRIBUNE - Thu, Nov 19, 1959 - Services for Mrs Howard E Swope, 88, a pioneer resident of Iowa were held Wednesday Nov 18 from Lakeside Presbyterian church. Burial was in the Storm Lake cemetery beside her husband.

Mrs Swope passed away Monday in a local hospital. Mrs Swope and her husband resided in Storm Lake many years ago when they operated a department store in the building where Dumbaugh's was housed for so long and now Feldmans. Later years they moved to Minneapolis where Mr Swope passed away. Mrs Swope returned 9 years ago to Storm Lake to reside with her daughter, Mrs Lurene DeLand, 705 West Fifth.

Besides her daughter, she is survived by two grand daughters, Barbara (Mrs Richard Kearney) of Storm Lake and Janet (Mrs James Huber) of Cherokee; and 5 great grandchildren: Michael and Lynn Huber, Jan, Patricia and William Kearney.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Henry Adelbert.

Swope hall on the Buena Vista campus was named for the late Howard Swope, a large donor who made the building possible.

Mrs Swope was born on August 18, 1871 in Grimes, Iowa. After her marriage to Howard E Swope, her early years were spent in Des Moines and Campbell. Later the family moved to Marathon and then to Storm Lake. Mr and Mrs Swope moved to Minneapolis in 1919 where they made their home for 31 years.
