Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - Fri, Mar 22, 1912 - Following closely upon the death of her aged husband, Mrs J.C. Spooner died on Sunday at the home of her son Edward C, north of this city. For several weeks she has been very weak and it was believed at the time of the death of Mr Spooner that she could not last long.

Ellen Colman was born at Astabula, Ohio July 19, 1828. In the year 1852 she was married to Joseph Wood and they moved to Center Point, Iowa where Mr Wood died in 1867.

In the year 1870 she was married to J.C. Spooner and came immediately to this county, where she lived for 42 years. She was the mother of two sons: Edward C and John E both of Storm Lake, who are left to mourn. Mrs Spooner was a home loving and a home making woman and was greatly beloved by all who knew her. She is held in the most kindly remembrance by all of the older residents of this city.

Funeral services were held at the Edward C Spooner home on Tuesday and interment was made in the Storm Lake cemetery.
