Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - May 19, 1922 - Mrs Mary Jeanette Sedgley died the home of her daughter, Mrs Grace Marshall, in this city at four o'clock Friday afternoon at the age of 80 years.
She had made her home in Storm Lake since 1900 and was known as a highly cultured lady, well informed and interested in national affairs to the last. She was an artist of merit and had a number of beautiful oil paintings on which she had worked as pastime.
Her last illness dated from October 1921 when she was afflicted with inflammatory rheumatism, which ultimately affected her heart. Her death came peacefully Friday afternoon at the home at 317 Geneseo street.
She was born in Stowe, VT. July 13, 1841 where she spent the early part of her girlhood. When she was 14 years of age she moved with her parents to Joliet, IL. In 1863 she was married at Joliet to William Sedgley, who was then serving his country in the Civil War. He was later discharged on account of illness contracted in service, which eventually resulted in his death.
In 1870 the family moved to Kentland, IN where Mr Sedgley died June 3, 1874. She and the four children continued to live in Kentland. In 1900 she moved to Storm Lake and for the last 5 years had made her home with her daughter, Mrs Grace Marshall.
She is survived by one daughter and two sons: Mrs Grace Marshall and William L Sedgley of Storm Lake and Wirt Sedgley of Omaha.
The eldest son, Harry Hamilton Sedgley, died in 1902.
