LaRue Katherine Terry
September 25, 1914 - June 6, 2016

LaRue K. Terry, age 101, of Sheldon, Iowa, formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Monday, June 6, 2016, at Prairie View Home in Sanborn.

LaRue Katherine Miller, a daughter of Charlie and Anena (Baeth) Miller, was born on September 25, 1914, in Schleswig, Iowa. Baptized at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, she attended a country school.

LaRue met her future husband while working as a waitress in Ida Grove. After a short stint in Michigan, she returned home. On February 12, 1938, she married Don Terry at her parents’ home in Schleswig. Subsequently, they were blessed with one daughter, Janet.

A housewife and mother, LaRue raised Janet at their home in Storm Lake. At the same time, she served at Lakeside Presbyterian Church as a Sunday school teacher, Elder, and Deacon. In addition, she worked for many years as a credit manager for Sears.

A very organized person, LaRue pursued her many interests. Talented at needlework and crafting, did she a lot of sewing, knitting, and quilting as well as refinishing furniture throughout the years. Moreover, an avid participant in her garden club, she, always, kept a beautiful flower garden of her own. She and Don enjoyed traveling after they retired. Most of all, however, LaRue cherished the time she spent with family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Janet (Glen) Hofmeyer, of Hospers, Iowa; her grandchildren: Tim Hofmeyer, and his children: Taylor (fiancée, Anna Peters) and Travis (Melannie) Hofmeyer; Todd Hofmeyer; and Terri Koedam, and her children, Elyse and Trace; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members, and friends.

LaRue was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; her brother, Herbert (Amanda) Miller; and her sister, Alice (Carl) Bielenberg.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 10, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Morgan Township Cemetery in Schleswig, Iowa. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
