STORM LAKE PILOT TRIBUNE - Dec 17, 1897 - Thos. Quay, Sr. died at his home in Hayes township at 11:30 a.m., last Monday, December 13, of heart disease, with which he had been afflicted for more than two years.
The funeral occurred Wednesday at 12:30 from the Presbyterian church, Rev. John MacAllister, assisted by Rev. G.H. Fracker, conducting the services. The large number of his neighbors who were in attendance showed the high regard in which deceased was held, and the sympathy felt for the bereaved family.
Mr. Quay was born January 19, 1828, at Douglas, Isle of Man. He came to the United States in the fall of 1867 and located near Galva, Illinois, where he worked in the mines until 1883, when he moved to Hayes township, where he has since resided.
One child died at Galva, Illinois, while four, with his widow, mourn his removal from this world. Mr. Quay was a member of the Pilgrim Presbyterian church in Hayes township, and was a man held in the highest respect by all who knew him.
The surviving children are: Fred Quay of Storm Lake, Mrs. John Haburn of Washta, Iowa, and Thos. and Miss Gertie Quay of Hayes township.
