Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - Jul 11, 1929 - Isabelle Gillrie was born January 6, 1847 at Holland Landing, Simcoe county, Canada, the daughter of William and Margaret Gillrie.
She was united in marriage to James Newell Jan 24, 1865 at Eagle Harbor, MI. A year later they moved to Dubuque, Iowa living there until 1876, when they came to Sac county living on a farm and in the town of Early until 1919 when they purchased a home in Storm Lake where they resided until their death.
Mr and Mrs Newell celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1915. Mr Newell's death occurred in 1923.
Mrs Newell was the mother of 8 children: four sons and four daughters.
John and Edith died in childhood and Will A. in 1921.
The other children are: Mrs Sadie Rowley of Alcester, SD; Mrs Martha Cook of Storm Lake; Fred C Newell of Hastings; James H Newell of Fort Dodge; and Mrs Pearl Domino of Nemaha, all of whom where present at her death. Arthur Newell, son of Will A Newell, whom she cared for as a mother, after his mother's death was also present during her last illness.
Besides her children, a sister Mrs R.L. Hawkins of San Jose, CA; a half sister, Mrs Charles Kittenbeil, a half brother, Will Kline, both of Lake Linden, MI; 18 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren are left to mourn.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Lakeside Presbyterian church.
