Lynn Marie Hogrefe
August 9, 1951 - April 14, 2016

Lynn M. Hogrefe, age 64, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on April 14, 2016, in Onawa, Iowa.

A daughter of Gerald and Delores (Rousch) Petersen, Lynn was born on August 9, 1951, in Storm Lake, Iowa. Baptized at the Baptist Church in Newell, Iowa, and later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake, she graduated from Newell-Providence High School in 1969. She, then, attended Iowa Central Community College with a major in Interior Design.

On October 24, 1970, Lynn married Norman Hogrefe. Their marriage, subsequently, lasted until his death forty-two years later. They were blessed with five children: Troy, Wendy, Melissa, Derek, and Tiffany. Not quite satisfied with five, however, they borrowed three more as exchange students.

To embrace her loving family and friends, Lynn would host many gatherings and make colossal feasts fit for kings. Everyone left with their bellies full, thirst quenched, and their “doggie bags” packed. With her door always open, she would welcome everyone who entered. An avid reader, she, usually, spent her evenings curled up on the couch reading a book with her dogs and cat snuggled in next to her.

A woman of many talents, Lynn had a knack for doing crafts, whether making porcelain dolls, painting a landscape, or doing interior decorating. She loved listening to 50s and 60s music and attending concerts. Usually the first ones on the dance floor, she and her hubby, Norm, often went dancing. She loved to travel whether abroad, up the road for food and fun, or especially shopping with her treasured “girls,” her sisters and daughters. A faithful employee at Walmart for twenty-six years, she treasured the many friends she made there including her dear friends, Deb and Pat, with whom she enjoyed getting together.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Troy (Andrea) and Derek (Barb) Hogrefe, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Melissa (Nathan) Snyder, of Alta, and Tiffany (Dave) Stern, also of Storm Lake, Iowa; her grandchildren: Tristan Bainum; Addyson, Bryce, Drew, Elli, Madelyn, and Morgann Hogrefe; Loggan Norwood; Ashton, Makayli, and Makenzie Snyder; and Ava and Emme Stern; her step-mother, Marylinn Petersen, of Whapeton, Iowa; her sisters, Jerri Long, of Newell, Iowa, and Michelle (Brian) Kruger, of Camus, Washington; her brother, Jon Survis, of Austin, Texas; her step-sister, Beth (Kent) Wolcott, of Whapeton, Iowa; her brothers-in-law, Bob (Rose) Hogrefe, of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Arlo Hogrefe, of Alta, Iowa, and Jon Winslow, of Milford, Iowa; her sister-in-law, Myrna (Roger) Lorenzen, of Alta, Iowa; her aunt, Shirley Freese, of Las Vegas, Nevada; and her uncle, Everett (Shizu) Rousch Elkins, of Arkansas; as well as a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, special neighbors, and friends.

Lynn was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Hogrefe; an infant daughter, Wendy Hogrefe; her parents, Gerald Petersen, and Delores and Norman Newbury; her parents-in-law, Martin and Anna Hogrefe; her sister, Bobby Winslow; and her brother-in-law, Vernon Hogrefe.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in rural Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Tuesday, April 19, 2016, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present the entire time.
