Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - August 2, 1907 - The many friends of the William Holmes family were greatly shocked to receive the word last Saturday of the death of Thomas Holmes, son of Mr and Mrs William Holmes, who live just a short distance northwest of this city.
The young mans death occurred last Thursday night at Medina, ND. A Short time before he had his leg broken while playing baseball. For some reason blood poison set in and he lived but a short time. His illness was not of long enough duration to permit any of the family going to him and the news of his death was a great shock to them.
The deceased was born in Scott township this county, 23 years ago and has spent practically his entire life in this vicinity where he has a host of warm friends. He was a young man of industry and integrity and was generally esteemed by all who knew him. He has spent the past few months in North Dakota.
He leaves to mourn his father and mother and the following brothers and sisters: Roy Holmes of Jamestown, ND; Lewis Holmes of Minot, ND; William Holmes of Medina, ND; Mrs D.C. Scofield of Washta; Mrs Alice McChristie of Oklahoma; Mrs Luella Johnson of Alta; Mrs Stella Mainwaring of Marathon; and George, Hazel, and Ida at home. All of these but Mrs McChristie were permitted to be at the funeral services on Monday.
The remains were brought home to the sorrowing family on Sunday morning. Funeral services were held from the home on Monday afternoon. Interment was made in the Storm Lake cemetery.
