Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - December 28, 1917 - Miss Olive Holmes, aged 32 years and eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs William Holmes of Northwood, Iowa, died at her home of diabetes Thursday, Dec 28, and was brought to Storm Lake for interment on Saturday. Miss Holmes has not enjoyed the best of health for several years but her condition was not alarming until a short time before her death.

The body was taken to the home of Mrs I.A. Lockwood and short funeral services were held on Saturday morning. A large number of old friends from Hayes township and Sulphur Springs attended. The remains were laid to rest in the Storm Lake cemetery beside her sister, Kitty, who died a few years ago on the eve of her graduation from high school.

The Holmes family are well known hereabouts, having resided in Hayes township for many years. Miss Olive was born there as were a number of her brothers and sisters. The death of the eldest daughter of the household occurred under very sad circumstances. The father is ill and the grim Reaper is expected daily, for his condition is so serious.

Two brothers Thadius and Henry were called to the colors under the conscription set and were leaved furloughs that they might accompany the body to Storm Lake for burial.

The mother, two other brothers and one sister, Lola survive.

The family left this city about 12 years ago and have resided in Schaller, Minnesota and at Northwood.
