Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - December 6, 1912 - Friends in this county were greatly shocked learn of the death of Mrs William Holmes which occurred in Des Moines last Saturday after a long illness. While it was known that death might be expected, few knew that death was imminent.

She moved from Michigan with her parents in 1857 to Dallas county, Iowa where on Feb 26, 1870, she was married to William Holmes, who survives her to mourn the departure of a true wife and willing helpmate.
They moved to Buena Vista county in the spring of 1871, living for many years in Scott township, later moving to the farm just north of town which continued to be their home until a few months ago when they moved to Des Moines.
Deceased was the mother of 12 children: Mrs Stella Mainwaring of Davenport, Iowa; Leroy of Jamestown, ND; Lewis of Portland, Oregon; Mrs Lottie Scofield of Linn Grove; Mrs Alice McCristy of Kingfisher, OK; Jessie, who died in infancy; Mrs Luella Johnson of Storm Lake; Thomas and George, who departed this life in 1907; Mrs Ida Cain of Homer, NE; and Miss Hazel, who remains in the home.
Funeral services were held at the old home north of this city on Monday afternoon. Interment was made in the Storm Lake cemetery.
