July 9, 1909 - Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - The remains of Mrs. Elizabeth Walton Highland for years a resident of Maple Valley township, were brought to this city from Sioux City Wednesday and buried in the Storm Lake cemetery. The remains were accompanied to this city by Mr. and Mrs. J. Benson, Mrs. Benson being a daughter.

The deceased was born in the county of Kent, in England, on October 18, 1832, and came with the family to America seven years later. They lived in New York for five years, moving later to Wisconsin, where she was married to Thomas Highland, who died in Storm Lake on May 1, 1879.

For thirteen years the Highlands lived in Maple Valley township.

The deceased leaves five children to mourn: Charles Highland of Sweetwater, Neb., Mrs. Marie Benson of Leeds, Sioux City; Mrs. Carrie Bennett of Randolph, Neb., Mrs. Mary Snyder of Riverside, Cal.; Mrs. Jennie Allen of Fargo, N.D.; two children, a son and daughter, who died when quite young.
