Storm Lake Register - May 14, 1935 - Carl Heschke, long time resident of Buena Vista county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs Anna Scott, near Truesdale on Sunday morning at 10 after an illness of some time. He was in his 82nd year.

Born in the Mark of Brandenburg, Germany, not far from Berlin on Sept 11th, 1853, Mr Heschke was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church there. On March 26th, 1875 he married Miss Wilhelmine Weiland and together with her immigrated to America in 1889. They established their home near Hanover, Buena Vista county, Iowa.

He lived in that community until 1898 when he moved to the neighborhood of Storm Lake. Since that time he was continuously connected with the Lutheran church at Storm Lake. Since his wife, who preceded him in death last July, was a bedfast invalid for 27 years, he was unable to take an active part in the affairs of the church.

He served faithfully at the bedside of his invalid wife for those 27 years. Before she died last summer, Mr Heschke himself became bedfast and had since been unable to leave the house at any time. For several days prior to his death he gradually failed and quietly passed away Sunday morning.

Surviving are 8 children: August Heschke of Benson, MN; Mrs Anna Sweet of near Truesdale; Otto Heschke of near Storm Lake; Herman Heschke of near St Ansgar; Frank Heschke of Hastings, MN; Charlie Heschke of near Storm Lake; and Arthur Heschke of Rembrandt; 31 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Four children preceded their father in death at an early age.

Funeral services were held from the home of his daughter, Mrs Sweet, Tuesday afternoon and from the Lutheran church in Storm Lake. Interment was in the Storm Lake cemetery at the side of his wife.
