June 25, 1920 - Storm Lake Register - After a considerable period of decline to the inevitable end, death came to Mrs. Carrie B Hankey, June 11, 1920 at her temporary home in Bradentown, Florida.

Mrs. Hankey was born October 4, 1871, at Alden, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R Burnham. While the subject of this note was still an infant, the family removed to Storm Lake, where practically her entire life has been passed, and where she was known to all our people in her active career.

Mrs. Hankey developed unusual business qualities, and her energy was remarkable even to the last. With the passing away of her mother, some few years ago Mrs. Hankey gave up her other interests and devoted herself to the care of her failing father, to whom she was, until the end of his life, the devoted and patient nurse. But her own constitution was already overstrained, and in the hope of recovery, or at least of lengthening her days, Mrs Hankey left for Florida, in which beautiful country her last days were spent, with her daughter as attendant and with kindly friends to aid in the tender ministrations.

The body, in accordance with her wishes, was brought back to the old home, where on Thursday afternoon, June 17, it was laid away in the local cemetery beside the remains of her father and mother. The services were held at the Methodist church, in charge of Rev W.T. Macdonald.

Mrs Hankey leaves to mourn her loss and cherish her memory, two children: Harold and Winnifred, as also a brother, Walter B Burnham of Eagle Butte, South Dakota, and her sister, Mrs Nellie E. Nordstrum, of Hollywood, California.

The Grand Army of the Republic and the Women's Relief Corps had charge of the ceremonies at the cemetery.
