Storm Lake Register - July 16, 1925 - The death of Forrest Gummert, well known young farmer, residing east of Storm Lake, which occurred at the Swallum hospital last Sunday night shortly after 11 o'clock, as result of blood poisoning following an operation for appendicitis, was heard with sorrow by relatives and hosts of friends.

Mr. Gummert was ill for several days and on Friday evening he was taken to the hospital where he submitted to an operation, and although everything that medical aid and loving hands could do was done for him his condition was so serious, that it was of no avail, and death followed Sunday night.

Forrest Allen Gummert, son of James and Carrie Gummert, was born at Iowa Falls, Iowa, on October 14, 1900, and passed away at the Swallum hospital in Storm Lake on Sunday July 12, 1925, at the age of 24 years, 8 months and 28 days.

On January 29, 1923, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Rebecca Wise, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Georgo Wise of near Storm Lake, and to this union one child, a little daughter, Gladys Mae, was born.

Besides his wife and little daughter, he is survived by one brother, Devere Gummert of Iowa Falls, and by four aunts: Mrs. Emily Hogan of Iowa Falls, Mrs Rose Schaffer, of South Dakota, Mrs. Ada Matthews and Mrs. Ella Heath of Colorado.

His parents and one sister preceded him in death.

At the age of 12 years he was baptized and became a membor of the Christian church at Robertson, Iowa, and he lived a true Christian life. He was a devoted husband and father and an excellent neighbor, and he was a man with many friends whom will deeply mourn his untimely death.

"But though our hearts may break with sorrow by the grief so hard to bare, we shall meet him some glad morning in the upper garden there."

Funeral services were held from the Sulphur Springs church Tuesday afternoon, July 14, at three o'clock, conducted by the Rev T.A. Ambler, and interment was in the Storm Lake cemetery. Numerous friends deeply sympathize with the family in their bereavement.
