April 17, 1908 - Storm Lake Buena Vista Vidette - John Fultz, whose death we recorded last week, was born in Germany, June 26th, 1826. In the year 1835 he came with his parents to Maryland. In 1851 he married Caroline Simon, who survives him.
To this union were born 12 children, nine with his wife survive him. The sons are John Fultz of Missouri, Bass Fultz of near Storm Lake, Charles Fultz of La Porte, Iowa and George Fultz of this city. The daughters are Mrs. Mary Flack, of Missouri; Mrs. Julia Diehl, of Storm Lake; Mrs. Clara Foell, of Hayes township; Mrs. Kate Chapin, of eastern, Iowa; Mrs. Barbara Cannon of near Storm Lake. Deceased also leaves one brother Bass Fultz of Waukon, Iowa.
Three children, one in young womanhood and two in infancy preceded him in death.
In 1852 the family moved from Maryland to Allamakee county, Iowa, where all but two of their twelve children were born to them and grew to manhood and womanhood on the old home place. At fourteen years of age, he was confirmed and joined the Lutheran church. Several years later, he and his wife united with the Presbyterian church of which he was an active earnest member until he came here over a year ago to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Foell.
His family well remember him as an earnest and devout Bible student, possessing the ability to a remarkable degree of quoting passages and repeating whole chapters of scripture. He lived an exemplary life, worthy of emulation, unselfishly devoted to his family and friends and will be remembered as clean and abstemious in his habits. It gave him great satisfaction that all his children were present during his sickness.
