March 14, 1924 - Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - Henry Delbridge, well known and highly esteemed resident of this city, passed away at the Swallum hospital Saturday March 8th, following an illness of some time. Mr. Delbridge has been ailing for the past few years and last week was taken to the hospital for treatment, but he passed away Saturday morning at the age of 81 years.
Henry Benhart Delbridge was born near Hanover, Germany, on January 1, 1843. When but a boy of 13 the family came to this country, settling on a farm near Decatur, Illinois. While living at this place he united with the German Methodist Episcopal church and was an earnest and faithful member of that church or the English speaking Methodist church to the time of his death. Here for many years he, in addition to other church activities, was superintendent of the Sunday school.
On November 23, 1863, he was united in marriage to Barbara Huegle. Mrs. Delbridge passed away January 20, 1911. The family moved to Iowa in 1883. After living a brief period at Fonda they moved near Schaller. Later they moved near Storm Lake and about eight years ago moved into town. While living in Schaller Mr. Delbridge showed his great interest in religious matters by his devotion to church and school. Here again he was elected superintendent of the Sunday school and served a number of years. While of late years he has not been able to take the place he would have liked in religious activities he never lost his interest in them.
He was a man of tender sympathies and strict integrity. A very large circle of friends cherish a high appreciation of his sterling worth. Interment was made in the Storm Lake cemetery Monday March 10, from the First Methodist church, the Rev. Herbert Clegg officiating.
Three sons and four daughters mourn his death: Frank of Sioux City; Wesley of Chicago; and Alvin of St. Paul; Mrs. John Sanborn of Storm Lake, Mrs. Dora Preston of Sioux City, Mrs. Mamie Snyder of California, and Mrs. Emma Kline of Storm Lake.
