November 28, 1913 - Storm Lake Buena Vista Vidette - Eugene Valon DeGriselles was born in Paris, France, Nov. 20, 1841. As a young man became to this country and has been one of the old settlers of Buena Vista County. His wife died here and he was married again. His second wife survives him.
Mr. DeGriselles was taken ill about two weeks ago and rapidly grew worse and on November 22, 1913, at two o'clock in the afternoon he passed away. The funeral services were held at the home Tuesday morning by Rev Kreutz and the body was laid to rest in the Storm Lake cemetery.
Mr. DeGriselles leaves to mourn his wife and ten children and a large number of grandchildren.
Ever since the editor of the Vidette has come to Storm Lake, the figure of Mr. DeGriselles has been familiar to her. The fact that in physical makeup he resembled her father and also had some of the same mannerism, as what first attracted attention, and from that time on she watched for Mr. DeGriselles.
In the last few years he has been in the habit of hitching his horses in front of the court house lawn. He was a gentleman of the old school, always polite and courteous and treated a woman with the chivalry which is born and bred into the French race. We will miss him, we often made an excuse to talk to him in order to hear his broken English, for in this again he resembled our father, and now like our father, he is at rest in the six foot four of allotted ground.
