Joyce Ann Schnider
November 2, 1935 - March 12, 2016

Joyce Ann Schnider, a daughter of Carl and Gwendolyn Anderson Van Hooser, was born on November 2, 1935, in Peterson, Iowa. She received her early education in and graduated from the Alta High School in Alta, Iowa, in 1954.

On July 31, 1960, Joyce married Alvin Schnider in Spencer. Following their wedding, they made their home in Spencer. Joyce worked for the Farm Bureau and ASCS in the beginning and then at the Spencer Hospital for forty-four years before she retired. In addition, she worked at the Clay County Fair for twenty-seven years. A member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer, she actively participated in the United Methodist Women and at one time held the position of Treasurer. Moreover, she volunteered with the Spencer Hospital Auxiliary and Hospice of Spencer Hospital after she retired. In her spare time, she enjoyed baking, reading, traveling, and listening to classic country music along with Lawrence Welk and Elvis.

Joyce passed away at Longhouse Residence on March 12, 2016, at the age of 80. She is preceded in death by her parents;an infant brother, Kenneth; a brother, Jerry Van Hooser; a sister, Clarice (Russel) Madden; her in-laws, Matt and Daisy Schnider; twin sisters-in-law, Marlene Freeburg and Arlene Nichols; and a niece, Gayle Carter.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, Alvin of Spencer; her son, Todd Schnider, of Spencer; her daughter, Tammy (Chris) Swarts, of Clayton, North Carolina; a grandson, Drew Swarts; twin granddaughters, Jenna and Emma Swarts; a sister, Janice Peterson, of Greenville, Iowa; a brother, Jerold (Karen) Van Hooser, of Florida; her sisters-in-law: Mavis Applegate, of Columbus, Nebraska, Norma Lee (Marvin) Jans, of Fostoria, Iowa, JoAnn (Bryon) Thelen, of Milford, Iowa, and Carol (Roger) Steely, of Spencer, Iowa; and a brother-in-law, Steve (Debbie) Schneider, of Columbus, Nebraska; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

SERVICES: Funeral Services for Joyce Ann Schnider will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, March 17, 2016, at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer, Pastor Kay Hooper officiating.

CASKET BEARERS: Drew Swarts, Jason Thelen, Austin Peterson, Tom Carter, Mike Peterson, Tyler Carter.

VISITATION: Will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

MUSIC: “How Great Thou Art,” “Amazing Grace.”

INTERMENT: Riverside Cemetery, Spencer, Iowa.
