Patsy L. Andersen, age 91, of Alta, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community of Storm Lake.

Patsy Lee Phillips was born in Horatio, Arkansas, on October 1, 1924, to Nicholas Marion and Viva Jean (Pevehouse) Phillips. She received her schooling in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and married Chester Olson there as well on February 13, 1945. They, then, moved to Mapleton, Iowa, after his discharge from the Army and took up faming until 1959 when because of Chester’s health, they moved to Sioux City. Chester died in 1983. Patsy, later, married Arles A. Andersen, Sr., on October 1, 1987. They made Alta their home where they farmed until Arles passed in 1989.

Patsy was a member of the Lutheran Brotherhood, the Royal Neighbors of America, the American Business Women of Sioux City, and an active, dedicated member of the VFW Auxiliary, a classy and stylish member of the Red Hat Ladies, and a frequent visitor to the “boat.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; her sister and brother-in-law, Betty Jean and Archie (Al) Shelby; a niece, Carolyn Sue Shelby; and a nephew, Sidney Michael Shelby.

Survivors include her children: Austin, Madison, Tanner, Parker, and Peyton; her stepchildren: Arles Andersen, Jr., of Des Moines; Douglas Andersen, of South Sioux City; and Marsha Black, Paul Andersen, and Ruth Ann, all of Sioux City; and a niece, Sandy (Mark) Simpson, of The Colony, Texas, and their children, Angela (Michael) Spiewak and Stephanie Simpson.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 14, 2016, at 10:00 AM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta. Burial will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery of Sioux City. A visitation will take place one hour prior to services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the VFW Auxiliary of Alta.
