October 4, 1921 - October 26, 1998Lois EInora Stroup Balius, of Albert City, died on Monday, October 26, 1998, in Albert City.
Lois was born on October 4, 1921, in Creston to John and Mary Emma (Kingery) Stroup. In due course, she graduated from Creston High School.
On July 4, 1945, she married Eugene Balius in Winterset. They made their home in Creston. In 1956, however, they moved to Albert City.
An avid churchgoer, Lois belonged to Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City. Active in their women's groups and quilting groups, she, also, sang in the church choir.
She enjoyed traveling to see her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Just A Club and The Town and Country Club. She liked collecting mugs, napkins and teddy bears. She enjoyed reading and needlework and sending cards to family and friends on special occasions.
Admitted to the Pleasant View Nursing Home on September 17, 1998, she died there a little over a month later. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant daughter; an infant grandson; three half-sisters; a sister; a stepbrother; and a son-in-law.
Survivors include her children — John and Janet Balius, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Linda Harders, of Everly, Steven Balius, of Honolulu, Hawaii, Barbara and Tom McDaniel, of Des Moines, Connie and Trevor Haakinson, of Dubuque, and David and Jan Balius, of Gilbert, Arizona; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a half-brother — Woodrow Benedict, San Diego, California; as well as other relatives.
Services for Lois will be held Monday, November 2, 1998, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Albert City. Pastor Marvin Robeck will officiate. Burial will take place in the Fairfield Township Cemetery, Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home, Albert City, is in charge of the arrangements.
