Mrs. Maria Elving
[August 28, 1861 - June 29, 1944]Albert City—Mrs. Maria Elving, née Maria Person, was born in Vestergotland, Kymbo, Sweden, on August 28, 1861, and passed away Thursday morning [June 29, 1944] at the Fort Dodge hospital at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 1 day.
Confirmed in the Valstad congregation, she came to America in 1882 and settled in Marcus, Iowa, where she united with her church. In 1885, she married August Anderson. To this union were born three children. Mabel passed away in 1918 and remaining to mourn her death are her son, Gunnard L. Anderson, and her daughter, Mrs. Oscar Bjork, both of Albert City, and four grandchildren, also of Albert City; one brother in Sweden and a host of other relatives and friends.
In 1898, the family moved to this community which soon became Albert City. They joined the Ljunghed congregation here. In 1899, her husband, August Anderson, passed, away, and in 1905, the widow married Lars E. Elving. Mr. Elving died in 1918.
Mrs. Elving enjoyed taking part in all church activities until she became a “shutin” practically fifteen years ago. Mrs. Elving was a diligent reader of her Bible and Psalm book.
On June 8, she had the misfortune to fall and injure her hip. Complications developed which her weakened physical condition could not withstand. Mrs. Elving was given all possible care by her loved ones.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon for Mrs. Maria Elving at the home of her son, G. L. Anderson and at the Ljunghed Lutheran church in charge of Rev C. O. Swan. Mrs. R. E. Almquist and Mrs. O. A. Christenson sang a duet. Miss Esther Quist sang a solo in the Swedish language. Interment was made in the Fairfield cemetery. Out of town attendants at the services were Miss Judith Pearson, of Des Moines, Mrs. Aaron Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Anderson, of Meriden, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Anderson and Paulina, Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Anderson, of Cherokee, Mrs. Minnie Nichols, of Marathon, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Johnson, of Newell, Miss Regina Pierson and Mrs. Ida Thorson, of Storm Lake.
