August 4, 1929 - January 25, 2016

Dean D. Koeppe, age 86, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and formerly of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died on January 25, 2016, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Dean Donald Koeppe, a son of Dean Wilhelm and Agnes (Koeppe) Koeppe, was born on August 4, 1929, in Martinsburg, Nebraska. He attended first Martinsburg Grade School and then St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Sioux City before graduating from Central High in Sioux City in 1946. Next, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country as a medic during the Korean Conflict. He, also, represented his unit in boxing. In 1954, he was honorably discharged with the rank of E-8 Master Sergeant.

Dean married Nobuko “Mary” Kato in Kobe, Japan. Subsequently, they were blessed with four children: Roy, Michael “Mick”, William “Bill”, and Naomi. In 1956, Dean attended Barber School in Sioux City.

A devoted member of Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, Dean taught Sunday School. More recently, however, he became a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake.

He owned and operated Dean’s Barber Shop, Turners Beauty Shop, and The Barber’s Franchise until he sold it in the 1990s. An avid MMA boxing fan, he, also, loved playing cards and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. Moreover, he and Mary enjoyed wintering in Bull Head City, Arizona. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Roy (Linda) Koeppe, of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, Michael (Brenda) Koeppe, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and William (Shari) Koeppe, of Plano, Texas; his grandchildren: Angela (Ryan) Weitzel, of Sac City, Iowa, Justin (Jennifer) Koeppe, of Ankeny, Iowa, Dana and Lauren Koeppe, both of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, and Joshua, Sarah, and Jordan Koeppe, all of Plano, Texas; his great grandchildren: Colin and Spencer Koeppe, of Ankeny, Iowa, and Micah Weitzel, of Sac City, Iowa; and his brother, Robert (Myrna) Koeppe, of North Sioux City, South Dakota; as well as extended family members and friends.

Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Koeppe; an infant daughter, Naomi; his parents; his parents-in-law; and his sisters: Verene “Dollie” Jorgensen, Beverly Dunbar, Vae Deane Cason, and Vonnie “Pat” Meuleveld.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow at a later date. There will be no visitation. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
