Marshall Curtis Carter
(July 1, 1937 - September 5, 2015)

Retired MSgt (USAF) Marshall Curtis Carter passed away on September 5, 2015, at the family home in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He was born on a farm in Northwest Iowa on July 1, 1937, to Clifford and Ora Carter. In May 1955, he graduated from Newell High School in Newell, Iowa.

Marshall entered the Air Force in 1959. After basic training, he spent time at Langley AFB, Hickam AFB, Scott AFB, the Pentagon, Udorn RTAFB in Thailand, and ended up at Holloman AFB. He retired on April 1, 1979, after 20 years of service. After a short stint as an NCOA counselor and the City of Alamogordo purchasing agent, he was hired at Holloman AFB as a civilian in the Contracting Squadron. While there, he administered the Maintenance Range contracts for Oscma, Red Rio, and McGregor.

After retiring from the civil service, Marshall pursued his hobbies of furniture refinishing, lapidary evaluating, and singing with the barber shoppers and the Grace United Methodist Church choir where he was an active member for many years. He was also an avid bowler.

Marshall was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Keith A. Carter. He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Janice, at the family home; two daughters, Miriam Armstrong, of Alamogordo, New Mexico, and Sandra Hernandez, of Warner Robins, Georgia; five grandchildren, Bridget Carter and Geoffrey and Andrew Ancira, of Augusta, Maine, Roman (Skyla) Hernandez, of Alamogordo, New Mexico, and Amanda Hernandez, of Warner Robins, Georgia; and three great granddaughters, Payton Marshall and Taylor and Brianna Green; along with many other relatives and friends.

The Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., September 16, 2015, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel with Jack Moffett officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alamogordo Home Health and Hospice.

The Carter family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
