Archie "Bill" McDanel
July 30, 1943 - December 15, 2015

Archie "Bill" McDanel, age 72, of Lakeside, Iowa, died on Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at North Lake Manor in Storm Lake.

Archie William “Bill” McDanel, a son of Galen LeRoy and Virginia Vera (Lawler) McDanel, was born on July 30, 1943, in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. He attended Greenville Rossie School, graduating in 1961. Confirmed at the Congregational Church in Greenville, Iowa, he, later, attended the Congregational Church in Sioux Rapids, Iowa.

On June 6, 1965, Bill married Mary Green in Greenville. Subsequently, they were blessed with two children: Shelley and Rolty.

Bill served thirty-three years in the Iowa National Guard, retiring as a First Sergeant. Known for his work ethic and determination, he could not sit still. Moreover, he, thoroughly, enjoyed his retirement working for Sunrise Pointe Golf Course in Storm Lake.

An avid sports fan, Bill enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes as well as bowling and especially golfing. In addition, as a youth, he played sports and even tried out for the Chicago White Sox baseball team. Most of all, however, Bill loved spending time with his family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mary McDanel, of Lakeside, Iowa; his children, Shelley Acosta, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Rolty McDanel, (Molly Olsen) of Colorado; his grandchildren: Tyler, Joshua, and Jordyn McDanel; his sisters: Jean Neave, of California City, California, Ruth Mager, of Aberdeen, Maryland, Cherish (Ben) Carlson, of Elkton, Maryland, and Mary (Jerry) Lisecki, of San Diego, California; his brothers: Ellis “Butch” (Christine) McDanel, of Bensalem, Pennsylvania, and Larry (Priscilla) McDanel, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and his sisters-in-law: Ruth Knephoff, of Spencer, Iowa, and Ilene Lee, of Newton, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Rolty McDanel; his sisters: Anita Chartrau, Joan Christensen, and Vera Estes.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 18, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, with full military rites. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
