November 27, 1940 - May 22, 2015Bruce D. Nelsen, age 74, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on May 22, 2015, at North Lake Manor in Storm Lake.
Bruce Dale Nelsen, a son of Miles and Nora (Willadsen) Nelsen, was born on November 27, 1940, in Storm Lake, Iowa. As an infant, he was baptized and later confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake where he remained a lifelong member.
Growing up, Bruce attended South School in Storm Lake and graduated from Storm Lake High School with the Class of 1959. Next, Bruce attended Lincoln Aviation and graduated with a degree in Air Craft Mechanics in 1961.
On October 7, 1961, Bruce married Judy McKenna in Fonda, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with two children: Brian and Nancy.
Bruce worked several years as a Gas Mechanic for Alliant Energy. He was the president of UMM and a member of Izaak Walton League where he held various offices. Bruce, also, served as a Scoutmaster for Troop 103 of Boy Scouts of America and as an Assistant Chief for the Storm Lake Fire Department.
In his spare time, Bruce enjoyed wood working, fishing, traveling, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He valued his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Judy Nelsen, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children: Brian (Sherri) Nelsen, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Nancy Nelsen, of Grand Forks, North Dakota; his grandchildren: Rick Nelsen, of Sioux City, Iowa, Cory Nelsen, of Fairfield, Iowa, Brett Nelsen, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and Shelby Nelsen, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his sisters-in-law, Jane (Dennis) Smith, of Ames, Iowa, and Lois Nelsen, of Forsyth, Missouri; and his brother-in-law, Jerry (Gale) McKenna, of Omaha, Nebraska; as well as extended family members and many friends.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Miles and Nora Nelsen; and one brother, Glen Nelsen.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Monday, May 25, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
