Carolyn Reiling, age 80, of Rembrandt, Iowa, died on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at her home.

Carolyn Rae Youngdahl, a daughter of Carol and Aletha (Ausborn) Youngdahl, was born on May 31, 1934, in Lake City, Iowa. She received her education in Storm Lake, graduating from Storm Lake High School with the class of 1952. Then, she attended the Omaha School of Business for one year.

On November 28, 1953, Carolyn married Ralph Reiling in Fort Riley, Kansas. This union was blessed with six children: Stephen, Rodney, Carol, Debra, Glenda, and Wendy.

A member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids, Carolyn served as a member of the ladies guild. In addition to job in bookkeeping, she worked as a librarian for many years. Active in her community, she participated in the Merry Matrons, as a 4-H Leader and as a Cub Scouts Leader.

Over the years, Carolyn enjoyed reading, bird watching, and playing cards (solitaire), gardening, baking, and going to the casino. More than all else, however, she adored and loved her family and will be forever remembered as a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Those left to cherish Carolyn’s memory include her husband of sixty-one years, Ralph Reiling, of Rembrandt; her children: Rodney (Kathy) Reiling, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, Carol (Darwin) Johnson, of Arthur, Iowa, Debra (Roy) Swenson, of Springfield, Nebraska, Glenda Reiling, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Wendy (Tony) Brown, of Pembroke Pines, Florida; her daughter-in-law, Judy Reiling, of Statesboro, Georgia; fifteen grandchildren: Cassandra, Myles, and Noah Brown; Bridget Johnson; Brad (Michelle), Jake (Brittany), Jessica, Josh, Katie, Michael, Ryan, Todd (Megan), and Tricia Reiling; and Gus and Leo Swenson; two great grandchildren: Beau and Blake Johnson; and her sister-in-law, Marlys Youngdahl, of Lakeside, Iowa; as well as many nieces; nephews; and friends.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Marvin Youngdahl; and a son, Stephen.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will follow in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place Friday, May 8, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
