Edward "Ted" Bernard John Pierick
November 24, 1927 - April 7, 2015Edward "Ted" Pierick, age 87, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at North Lake Manor in Storm Lake.
Edward Bernard John Pierick, a son of Bernard John and Camilla (Thompson) Pierick, was born on November 24, 1927, in Varina, Iowa. After Ted was baptized at St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church in Varina, his family moved to Anthon, Iowa, where he was confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Ted attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Anthon until the eleventh grade. He, then, transferred to Anthon High School, graduating in 1945 as the Valedictorian of his class. In 1951, Ted entered the United States Army. After proudly serving his country during the Korean War, he was honorably discharged in 1953.
A loving father to four children, Diane, Lisa, Margaret, and John, Ted, faithfully, attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. A member of the Knights of Columbus, he received the honor of becoming a 4th Degree Knight. He, also, belonged to the Alta VFW Post #6172.
In his spare time, Ted kept busy with his work and his family. He, also, enjoyed playing cards. Remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend to many, he will be deeply missed.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Diane Pierick, of Jasper, Indiana, Lisa (Kurt) Soeldner, of Eagan, Minnesota, Margaret “Peggy” (William) Spooner, of Celestine, Indiana, and John (Anne) Pierick, of Fort Collins, Colorado; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren, with one on the way; and a brother, Jim (Vera) Pierick, of Danbury, Iowa; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family members, and his family at North Lake Manor.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard; his sister, Bernadette Hoffman; his nephew, Raymond; and his sister-in-law, Elaine Pierick.
A Funeral Mass will be offered Saturday, April 11, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Anthon, Iowa. Visitation will take place Friday, April 10, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:30 p.m., all at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
