Vergil James “Bud” Dyslin
August 10, 1930 - April 25, 2014

Vergil James “Bud” Dyslin, 83, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, April 25, 2014, at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

A son of Floyd G. and Myrtle Fearn (Loving) Dyslin, Vergil James Dyslin was born on August 10, 1930, on a farm near Elk Point, South Dakota. He spent his childhood around Jefferson, South Dakota, where he received his early schooling. His family, then, moved to a farm near Cherokee. Bud graduated from the Quimby High School. Before he entered the Marine Corps in 1952 during the Korean Conflict, he helped his dad with the farming.

On June 15, 1952, he married Cleone Louise Van Winkle at the Church of Christ in Storm Lake. Subsequently, this union was blessed with three children; Ronald, Sharmin, and Kimberly.

After Bud returned from the service, he and Cleone settled in Cherokee where he worked as a meat cutter for the Swanson Grocery Store. He, also, worked for Fareway and Super Value in Storm Lake. Later, he worked for Sears for nearly 20 years. After the Sears store closed, he became a licensed realtor until his wife needed him to help her run her business, Nature’s Nutrition Center, which she operated for twenty years. He retired in 2001. Bud was very active in the Church of Christ, having served as an elder, deacon, and Sunday school teacher. He loved reading, tending his vegetable garden, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Preceding Bud in death were his parents; one brother, Harold Dyslin; and two sisters, Dorris Deaton and Evelyn Sassman.

Survivors include his wife, Cleone Dyslin, of Storm Lake; one son, Ron, and his wife, Christine Dyslin, of Warrenville, Illinois; two daughters, Sharmin, and her husband, Charles Ziska, of West Valley City, Utah, and Kimberly Dahm, of Storm Lake; four granddaughters: Chelsea Dahm, of Tiffin, Ohio, Emily Dahm, of Los Angeles, California, Eleanor Dyslin, of Boulder, Colorado, and Elizabeth Dyslin, of Warrenville, Illinois; three brothers: Donald, and his wife, Darlene Dyslin, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Larry, and his wife, Elaine Dyslin, of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and Joey, and his wife, Kathy Dyslin, of Cherokee, and two sisters: Donna McKissock, of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Diane Quevedo, of Richardson, Texas; one sister-in-law, Elaine Dyslin, of Norfolk, Nebraska; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services for Bud Dyslin will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, April 28, 2014, at the Church of Christ in Storm Lake with Pastors Don Gordon and Joey Dyslin officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church with the family present. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Storm Lake Cemetery. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of the arrangements.
