Craig Herrig
November 22, 1949 - December 22, 2014

Craig Bryant Herrig was born on November 22, 1949, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to Donald and Elaine (Harald) Herrig. After graduating from the Albert City-Truesdale school in 1968, he enrolled at Iowa Central Community College. In June of 1970, he enlisted in the US Army Reserves 339th Military Police in Pocahontas, Iowa.

On November 28, 1970, he married his high school sweetheart, Katherine Ann Fritz. To their union, a son, Kyle Bryant, was born in 1978 and a daughter, Karna Ann, in 1981.

In 1973, Craig and his brother, Terry, started a thirty-seven year partnership raising turkeys and growing grain. Craig, also, drove semi-trucks and delivered Winnebago motor homes in the winter months. In the late 1980s, they expanded their turkey business. In 2008 and 2010, however, they sold the turkey farms but continued their grain farming operation.

In 1992, Craig and his family hosted a Russian equipment engineer, Artour Shaikhislamov, thereby establishing a family friendship that has continued to this day. Yearly, the families have gotten together either in Russia or the United States. As a family, they have also enjoyed many vacations, traveling, boating, and skiing together. Moreover, during the last ten years, Craig and Kathy have enjoyed wintering at their home in Mesa, Arizona, spending time with their children and their four granddaughters, and exploring Arizona by quadding and traveling.

Craig is survived by his wife Katherine, their son, Kyle, and his wife, Kim Herrig, and their daughters, Alaina and Malia, of Chandler, Arizona; their daughter, Karna, and her husband, Thomas Tate, and their daughters, Kai and Pre, of Scottsdale, Arizona; his parents, Donald and Elaine Herrig; and three brothers, Terry, Scott, and Mark; as well as by many other relatives and friends made over the years.

Honorary pallbearers include Art Dahl, Artour Shaikhislamov, and Loren Gustafson.
Pallbearers include Dwight Kulp, Grant Shold, Dick Aronson, Bob Anderson, Dennis Bruns, and Jason Gustafson.

A memorial service will be held in Craig's honor on Monday, December 22, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 401 3rd St. N. in Albert City. A family visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Abben Cancer Center, 1200 1st Ave. E. Spencer, Iowa 51301-4321.
