Peoria, Arizona

Gary Sundberg, 71, of Peoria, Arizona, passed away on November 25, 2014. He was born in Alta, Iowa, on October 15, 1943.

Gary will be remembered with love and affection as an Army Veteran, who served as a Medic in Vietnam; as a Volunteer Fire Department EMT (South Dakota); as an ICU nurse for over thirty-five years at the Phoenix VA Hospital; and as a man who had a fifty-two year love affair with anything Pontiac. Indeed, he served on the National Pontiac Oakland Club International (POCI) Board, judged at the National Conventions, and served for seventeen years as Treasurer of the Local Chapter.

Gary is survived by his wife and best friend, Mary; his son, Brett (South Dakota); his loyal canine companion, Kelly; a brother, Kenneth (Marge); his sisters, Diane Schramm (Roger), and Sandra Hogrefe (Randy); his special in-laws, Gene Messer (Judi) and Dodi Messer; and his Alta '62 high school classmates, especially John Soderquist, as well as by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, cherished friends, and wonderful neighbors.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lucille; his siblings, Elaine, Robert, Darlene, Eldon, and Ronald; and mother-in-law, Angie.

Memorial Services will be held at the Heritage Funeral Chapel, 6830 W. Thunderbird Road, Peoria, on Monday, December 15th, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the service beginning at 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Arizona Humane Society (9226 N 13th Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona 85021) or the Pontiac Oakland Museum (205 N. Mill Street, Pontiac, Illinois 61764) in memory of Gary.
