Ruth Jeanette Wischmeyer
September 13, 1920 - November 3, 2014Ruth Jeanette Wischmeyer, daughter of Tennis and Amy (Hanson) Mickelson, was born on September 13, 1920, in Linn Grove Iowa. She grew up in the Linn Grove area, moving frequently and attending several area country schools. She was confirmed at the First Lutheran Church, Linn Grove.
As a young woman raised in the era of the Great Depression, Ruth worked at wherever jobs she could find, primarily at the Sioux Café in Sioux Rapids. In March, 1942, she married Dale Wischmeyer at the Little Brown Church in Nashua Iowa. Together, they farmed and raised their four children, retiring in 1980. Ruth and Dale spent many enjoyable years playing golf as members of the Little Sioux Country Club and spending their winters with their many friends in McAllen, Texas. In addition, they traveled regularly throughout the United States in addition to visiting Europe and Mexico.
Ruth enjoyed participating in community organizations, serving with the Ladies Aid Society, the Lutheran Church Women, and the PTA. She had a zest for life and a talent for cooking and entertaining that all who knew her enjoyed. She loved her family and delighted in seeing her grandchildren and their children and sharing in their activities and achievements.
Ruth passed away at the Longhouse Nursing Home on November 3, 2014, at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; her parents; three brothers; a sister; and a son-in-law, Glen Wheeler.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Shirley Wheeler, of Spencer, Iowa, Bill (JoAnn) Wischmeyer, of Austin, Texas, Connie (Denny) Edwards, of Hampton, Iowa, and Jim (Debbie) Wischmeyer, of Webb, Iowa; a brother, Gordon Mickelson, of Sioux City, Iowa; a sister, Norma Culp, Enid OK; ten grandchildren, and their children and grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends. She will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
VISITATION: Visitation will take place on Friday, November 7, 2014, at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer, starting at 12:00 P.M., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
SERVICES: Funeral services will take place at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, November 8, 2014, at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids, Rev. Tonna Parsons officiating.
