Marcine E. Jensen
May 29, 1920 - June 15, 2014

Marcine E. Jensen, age 94, of Marathon, Iowa, died on Sunday, June 15, 2014, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Albert City, Iowa.

Marcine Ellan Noonan was born on May 29, 1920, in Livermore, Iowa, a daughter of Charles and Nellie Noonan. After completing twelve years of education, Marcine graduated from Livermore High School in 1937. She worked as a housekeeper in Livermore and as a secretary for the USDA in Humboldt. During World War II, she supported the war effort by working in the hemp plant.

On May 10, 1943, Marcine married Leonard Jensen in Cheyenne, Wyoming. They raised six children: Judy, Jerry, Jane, Joe, Dick, and Peggy.

Leonard and Marcine managed the Jensen family farm in Rutland, Iowa, until 1964 when they purchased a farm near Marathon, Iowa. Marcine enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and doing the accounting for the family farm. She also liked to go dancing, fishing, and traveling with Leonard. After he passed away in 1989, Marcine continued to live on the family farm independently. In July 2013, however, she moved into the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Albert City where she was living at the time of her death. She was a member of Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids and St. Joseph’s Ladies Guild.

Marcine will always serve as an example of a life well lived. She, continually, put her values on display through her actions, her marriage to Leonard, her dedication to her church, and her loving kindness to her children, grandchildren, other relatives, and friends. To all those who knew her, her life representes quite simply the best of what love has to offer.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Judy A. Hopkins, of Washington, Missouri, Jerry L. (Polly) Jensen, of Camby, Indiana, Jane M. Chalstrom Jensen, of Lisbon, Iowa, Joseph C. (Cathy) Jensen, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, Dick J. (Nola) Jensen, of Albert City, Iowa, and Peggy J. (Steven) Phillips, of Kernersville, North Carolina; her grandchildren: Cheryl (David) Monzyk, Doug (Sharon) Hopkins, Lonnie (Angie) Hopkins, Scott Hopkins, Robin Busby, Trevor (Jen) Jensen, Jeff (Mary) Schwartzkopf, Jason (Amanda) Schwartzkopf, Christy (Adam) Marxen, Kevin (Tara) Tilton, Sara Chalstrom, Jim (Jessica) Jensen, Melissa (Brian) Beck, Stephanie (John) Yonkovic, Natalie Jensen, Gloria Jensen, Brad (Lori) Phillips, Keith (Jennifer) Phillips, Jodi (Steven) Moore, Craig Phillips, Katie Phillips, and Willie Phillips; and forty great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and many friends.

Marcine is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard Jensen; her sister, Elizabeth Reding; and her grandson, Steven Chalstrom.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids. Interment will follow in the Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon. Visitation with the family present will take place on Friday, June 20, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Parish Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids.
