July 2, 1920 - April 16, 2014Beryl M. Anderson, age 93, of Linn Grove, Iowa, died on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at her daughter’s home in Linn Grove.
Beryl Madge Anderson, a daughter of Elmer and Laura (Thomas) Peterson, was born in Linn Grove, Iowa, on July 2, 1920. She grew up in Linn Grove and graduated from Linn Grove High School in 1938.
Beryl married Leonard Anderson on February 21, 1943, at her parent’s home in Linn Grove. This union was blessed with two children: Cheryl and Barry. Throughout their married life, Beryl and Leonard farmed in the Linn Grove area. In addition to helping on the farm and taking care of her family, Beryl worked as a postal clerk for many years in Linn Grove. Extremely proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she loved sharing in their lives.
Beryl was a lifelong member of the Riverside Presbyterian Church where she was baptized and confirmed. Very active in her church, she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and participated in UPW and the church circles. Beryl was a proud member of the Hereford Cattle Association, and she served as Barry’s Cub Scout Den Mother. Both Beryl and Leonard regularly participated in the Cursillo ministry. She also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and socializing with the Linn Grove Red Hats.
Beryl’s life will always be celebrated and cherished by her family which includes her children: Cheryl and Paul Anderson, of Linn Grove, Iowa, and Pastor Barry Anderson, of Gridley, California, and his wife, Sharon, of Ankeny, Iowa; her grandchildren: Jesseca (Buck) Newton; Jacye (Rob) Hall; Cory, Logan, Cole, Laura, Linda, and Aaron (Sarah) Anderson; and Katie (Pete) Kragel; her great grandchildren: Caelan, Gabby, Brennen, and Graysen Newton; Cody, Ayden, Gracey, Landon, and Hailey Hall; Taylor, Trev, and Tucker Kragel; and Maggie and Finn Anderson; her brother, Dean (Sherry) Peterson, of Spencer, Iowa; her sister-in-law, June Booth, of Tracy, Minnesota; and her “Sioux City family” which includes: Rachel Storm and Ronnie and Elaine Anderson; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard; her father- and mother-in-law, Earl and Elsie Anderson; her sister and her husband, Arlene (Bill) Valentine; her brother and his wife, Elwyn (Mary) Peterson; her sister-in-law, Irene Anderson; her brother-in-law, Leonard Booth; her “Sioux City family” Mike and Florence Solomon and Chuck Storm; and her special friend, Mary Ellen “Suzy” Krummen.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at the Riverside Evangelical Free Church in Linn Grove. Burial will follow in the Barnes Township Cemetery in Linn Grove. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
